In just a few days I’ll be standing in front of a crowd of animal welfare professionals from all over the world at the HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) Animal Care Expo in Las Vegas, NV. I’m really excited about this opportunity to share with this hardworking group of people. This is my first trip to the Expo and I can’t wait to fill a few legal pads with new knowledge and ideas that I can bring back to share with you all. My seminar is part of the Shelter Education and Outreach track, and I’m presenting with two HSUS employees who will certainly teach me a thing or two.
What I hope to do as part of this conference is the same thing I hope to achieve with this blog: give people the tools and knowledge to use the power of the Internet to save animals’ lives. I know a lot of you out there are thinking this is too time consuming, the learning curve is too high, there’s not enough justification to do this… and I’m here to convince you that you can’t NOT do this anymore. It doesn’t matter if you’re 20 or 65 years old. This crazy social networking stuff will make a difference in the lives of the animals in your care.
I will hold your hand. I’ll walk you through it. It’s not too difficult, and (this is a secret) it’s actually kind of….fun.
So I’ll be blogging and tweeting from the HSUS Expo next week. Please follow along! If you want to follow the action on Twitter, it’s the #animalcareexpo hashtag (and if you don’t know what that means, don’t worry…I’m going to explain it).
Signing off now to put the finishing touches on my presentation and try to fit a week’s worth of life into one small suitcase.
